Diabetes and Pressures of Politics
At the end of May, the Irish local elections produced a number of councilors who live with diabetes and actively advocate for people with diabetes. As far as I’m aware, we do not have a national politician serving in Dail Eireann living with diabetes who talks publicly about it, not since, Deputy Pat Carey retired. The more we talk about diabetes the less stigmatised it is. We need to talk about diabetes!
Freestyle Libre Update June 2019
The HSE are currently reviewing a years worth of information regarding the cost versus savings efficiencies of the flash glucose monitor: the Freestyle Libre. Diabetes Ireland published its report on their online survey of Freestyle Libre users calling on the Minister for Health to make sure survey findings are considered as part of the HSE Review and the views of people who are self-funding its use when making his final decision on this issue.
