There was optimistic news from the HSE on their review and consideration of the Freestyle Libre glucose monitors access for adults with type 1 diabetes recently but we are still in a waiting game. This week our post is from a fellow Diabuddy who recently moved to France and wished to share her diabetes story and how since moving to France she has gained access to a Freestyle Libre glucose monitor through the French health care system. 

University hospital limerick is a personal issue for me and the lack of a diabetes dietitian has HUGE implications for people with diabetes; a chronic condition whose management revolves around food.

At the end of May, the Irish local elections produced a number of councilors who live with diabetes and actively advocate for people with diabetes. As far as I’m aware, we do not have a national politician serving in Dail Eireann living with diabetes who talks publicly about it, not since, Deputy Pat Carey retired. The more we talk about diabetes the less stigmatised it is. We need to talk about diabetes!
