Closing Keynote: Diabetes Burnout & other psychological impact of type 1 diabetes
with Dr Rose Stewart, Consultant Clinical Psychologist & Diabetes Psychology Lead for Wales, Chair of the UK Diabetes Psychology Network and Author of the TalkingType1 book series: “Diabetes Burnout”, “Diabetes Distress and Burnout for Parents and Carers” and “How to Manage a Mammoth: A book for children and families living with Type 1 diabetes”.
Morning Breakout Sessions
The Opening Keynote presentation by Chris Bright will be followed by the morning breakout sessions.
There are three breakout sessions taking place simultaneously and have been created specifically for one of three groups:
Adults with type 1 diabetes aged 25 years and older
Adults with type 1 diabetes aged between 16 and 25 years and
Parents and Carers of Children, Teenagers and Young Adults with type 1

Breakout Session 1: Eat Anywhere with Diabetes with Cathy Breen
This session will go over techniques such as giving it your best estimate, learning from other meals, allowing for fat /protein and correcting (with a pen or the HCL doing it if on a loop).

Breakout session 1: Well-being with Diabetes through Art with Weronika Burkot.
Weronica is a Polish artist and llustrator based in Belgium. She has been living with type 1 diabetes since 1995. She graduated with an MA at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw in Exhibition Design and Visual Communication with honours, a postgraduate program in Pedagogy in Art Education, and a postgraduate program in Internet Marketing at the Warsaw School of Economics. She has been a passionate diabetes advocate for over a decade, creating content and art to raise awareness on diabetes-related topics.

Breakout Session 1: Navigating Parental Mental Health with Type 1 Diabetes with Paula Short.
This will be a round table discussion on the emotional impact of being a parent of a child with type 1 diabetes and dealing with emotions such as grief, anger, frustration, anxiety and burnout. It’s okay not to be okay.

This session emphasizes the importance of self-advocacy for individuals living with Type 1 Diabetes and discusses key strategies such as effectively navigating the healthcare system, educating others about diabetes, and the necessity of choosing when to assert oneself or take a step back for self-care, highlighting that advocating for oneself is crucial for thriving with diabetes.

How to get started, tips for the different types of exercise.

This session will give this group of young adults an opportunity to ask the panel questions relating to exercise, work and well being.
“Adulting” with Diabetes Panel with Eoghan Cregan, Cameron Keighron, Síofra Kelleher, and Jean Langford
Chaired by: Aisling White
This session will be a discussion about life as a young adult with diabetes to answer questions on taboo topics such as alcohol, drugs, travel, driving, and lots more.

Diabetes Technology: Deciding What’s Right for You & Your Child with Ken Barclay.
This session will be a brief overview of the choices in diabetes technology and share some of the resources to help you navigate those choices.
Diabetes Citizens' Information
Facilitated by Thriveabetes Team members: Audrey O’Neill, Philip Short and Catherine Showler.
This session would focus on information not commonly provided by HCPs, such as the DCA/Carers allowance, driver’s license, DARE scheme, Special Accommodations for exams, etc.
