Thriveabetes 2018 Team

The original team of three has grown to five for the moment. We do expect it to grow as our annual event grows. But for the moment we are;

11219388_10153575163646001_8782242113621512384_nGrainne Flynn, Co-Founder & Main Event Organiser. Grainne is an adult with type 1 diabetes since 1993 and a diabetes blogger on Blood Sugar Trampoline. She has been volunteering with the Clare branch of Diabetes Ireland since 2008, organising several diabetes education meetings, type 2 diabetes screenings and fundraisers. She also facilitates the Type 1 and Type 2 Diabetes support groups in Clare.

Christine Meehan, Co-Founder & Exhibition Planner is an adult with type 1 diabetes since 2007. She has a BA degree in Community and Family Studies from NUIG. She has volunteered with Diabetes Ireland at Teen Activity day, as well as with Childline, Clare Youth Service as a Youth work assistant and with Spina Bifida Hydrocephalus Ireland as a carer to participants with Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus during their summer camps for past 3 years running.


Ken Barclay

Ken Barclay, AV & Tech Chap, has had Type 1 diabetes for 25 years and has been an early adopter of insulin pump therapy and Continuous Glucose Monitoring (CGM).  Ken has been involved with the Type 1 Diabetic Support Group over the last few years and is a firm believer in peer to peer support.  Ken has a background in IT and likes to use his powers for good by making sure conference presentations go smoothly.


Davina Lyon

Davina Lyon, Promotion, is Co-Founder of Diabetes T1 Ireland, a diabetes support website and facebook page.

We have also had a lot of help from the Diabetes Community and from volunteers.


Rebecca Flanagan, Founding Member, originally from America but living in Co. Clare for 17 years, and is owner and manager of Ballyvara House, a luxury self-catering guesthouse.  Rebecca’s father has type 1 diabetes (since the age of 13), and her 16 year old daughter has had type 1 diabetes since she was 8 years old.  She has been fundraising for Diabetes Ireland through participating in Run-a-Muck, the LA Marathon and several of the Clare 10K runs.
