The original team of three has grown to five for the moment. We do expect it to grow as our annual event grows. But for the moment we are;
Grainne Flynn, Co-Founder & Main Event Organiser. Grainne is an adult with type 1 diabetes since 1993 and a diabetes blogger on Blood Sugar Trampoline. She has been volunteering with the Clare branch of Diabetes Ireland since 2008, organising several diabetes education meetings, type 2 diabetes screenings and fundraisers. She also facilitates the Type 1 and Type 2 Diabetes support groups in Clare.
Rebecca Flanagan, Co-Founder & Venue Planner, originally from America but living in Co. Clare for 17 years, and is owner and manager of Ballyvara House, a luxury self-catering guesthouse. Rebecca’s father has type 1 diabetes (since the age of 13), and her 16 year old daughter has had type 1 diabetes since she was 8 years old. She has been fundraising for Diabetes Ireland through participating in Run-a-Muck, the LA Marathon and several of the Clare 10K runs.
Christine Meehan, Co-Founder & Exhibition Planner is an adult with type 1 diabetes since 2007. She has a BA degree in Community and Family Studies from NUIG. She has volunteered with Diabetes Ireland at Teen Activity day, as well as with Childline, Clare Youth Service as a Youth work assistant and with Spina Bifida Hydrocephalus Ireland as a carer to participants with Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus during their summer camps for past 3 years running.
Ken Barclay, AV & Tech Chap, has had Type 1 diabetes for 25 years and has been an early adopter of insulin pump therapy and Continuous Glucose Monitoring (CGM). Ken has been involved with the Type 1 Diabetic Support Group over the last few years and is a firm believer in peer to peer support. Ken has a background in IT and likes to use his powers for good by making sure conference presentations go smoothly.
Davina Lyon, Promotion, is Co-Founder of Diabetes T1 Ireland, a diabetes support website and facebook page.
We have also had a lot of help from the Diabetes Community and from volunteers.
